Saying Delphi is similar to PASCAL is like saying Visual Basic is similar to BASIC or Pro C++ is similar to C++. Delphi is a true Rapid Application Development environment (RAD). It suffers from a lack of good documentation ( a fate shared by many ), but it has a relatively short learning curve. At the core, Delphi relies on an Object Oriented PASCAL compiler which is a superset of ANSI PASCAL. Although an argument could be made that this represents a proprietary language, I would argue that it is no more so than any of the mainstream C compilers are, or for that matter Forms 4.5, Visual Basic, Power Objects, etc. In fact, I have found that it is extremely close to ANSI PASCAL. The focus of Delphi IS!!! defining and producing applications. Fairly powerful master/detail panels can be built through the application wizard with almost no training. The heart of the database access is SQL. Yes, that old standard we have all come to know and love is exactly!!! what you will use for data access.

Take it form someone who knows Visual Basic, Visual C, Power Builder, Power Objects, and Forms 4.5

Delphi is by far the best of the lot, atleast for developing windows clients for Oracle Servers.
