Do you mean parallel server, or parallel query?

Parallel server was invented on OpenVMS (remember V 6.2 of Oracle?). It was so successful that they decided to port it to other platforms.

Alas, I don't have any performance statistics for you. Contacting the manufacturers will, undoubtably, provide you with plenty of conflicting and confusing statistics. However, you might be able to derive some good information that way.

Try sending an e-mail to Niall Wall at Oracle (nwall_at_us.oracle.com). He works in the Digital business unit and may be able to provide statistics on Unix and OpenVMS running on Alpha equipment.
