Forms 4.5 question

I am working with a Forms 4.5 application. I am able to enter/commit the data OK, but when I try to continue on with processing I get the error FRM-40654: Record has been updated by another user; Re-query to see change". Do I have to "trick" forms by calling NEW_FORM to requery the data? I tried using "commit_form" rather than "commit" and that appeared to work better. The only problem was, when I continued with my processing and committed another change, it appeared to INSERT the values into the database again rather than UPDATE them.
Any info. you could give would be great!
