Here's a thought.

Oracle could ship its product and a version of Linux it feels like supporting. The operating system may be free, but the maintenace costs for operating system maintenance could be $1000-$2000 per year. Then you could spend $10,000+ for the Oracle license.

When a new version of Oracle comes out, it could then ship with the new OS patches.
