Forms 4.5 and Server Communication Question

I am hoping to pass data between a Forms 4.5 application and some Global Varaiables on the server. Then when the server gets these var's I want it to perform some functions and proceedures. Is this possible? How are some ways to get this kind of functionality.
We are running HP/UX10, Oracle 7.1.6 and Forms 4.5.
any and all suggestions welcome.
