Help in evaluating Oracle vs. its rivals.

I am in the process of evaluating oracle vs. its rivals. Some criteria I initially considered were:
· minimum client hardware requirements, · cross platform compatibility
(DOS, Windows for Work Groups, Windows 95, mainframe)
· accessibility to previously stored data (XBASE) · object Oriented Programming (OOP) support/opportunities · industry directional
Can anyone point me in a good direction to find objective reviews of strengths and weaknesses?
A recommendation of a good publication would be very helpful.
