Data Warehousing

I have a client (very new) that decided about one year ago to install Oracle on
a SparcCluster. It was a god choice but they did this with no Unix or Oracle
expertise (and still have neither). They have a conglomeration of "stuff"
totalling about 150 gigs. Normalizing/housekeeping will bring this down
somewhat but they will soon have an enormous database.
I have seen the term "data warehousing" but have thought it to be another
buzzword. Is there something more to this than good physical/logical design
and backup strategies? What else should be considered as organizations
encroach upon the terabyte range? Any thoughts or experiences you can share
would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks alot.
