Sequent-to-RS6000 port/upgrade

I've currently got RDBMS 6.0.37, Forms 3.0, Menu 5.0, SQR, SQL*Plus scripts on a Sequent. I need to port to an RS6000 58h (AIX) and upgrade the RDBMS to 7.1.4 or latest. I'm considering two approaches: 1) First port everything over, keeping the RDBMS at 6.0.37, and then upgrade to 7.1.4, or 2) Port and upgrade at the same time. Sometime down the road we will redo our applications in Forms 4.5, but for the immediate future we will keep them in Forms 3.0/Menu 5.0.

Does anyone have any experience/thoughts on the relative merits of first porting and then upgrading vs. porting/upgrading in one step?
