I am trying to get Oracle 7.1.6.2.0 running on a Sparcserver 1000 with:

  • Solaris 2.4
  • plus required patches that come on the installation CD
  • plus kernel patch 101945-27
  • and patches 102020-07 & 102432-05 needed for Sun's OnLine DiskSuite

QUESTION: Is anyone running 7.1.6.2.0 on a similar system?

I have another 7.1.6.2.0 database on Solaris 2.4 with patch level 101945-10, which is running perfectly, but the above mentioned system is very unstable. The database runs, but not for long before I start getting strange errors like:

  sqlplus /
  SQL*Plus: Release 3.1.3.7.1 - Production on Mon Jul 17 07:34:32 1995   Copyright (c) Oracle Corporation 1979, 1994. All rights reserved.   ld.so.1: sqlplus: fatal: relocation error: symbol not found: str: referenced   in sqlplus
  ERROR: ORA-03113: end-of-file on communication channel

or trace files that contain segmentation violations stuff like:

  Exception signal: 11
  SIGSEGV: Address not mapped to object
  failing address: 1063a80c

  • Call Stack Trace ----- calling call entry argument values in hex location type point (? means dubious value)
    • -------- -------------------- -------------------------- Cannot find symbol in /usr/lib/libsocket.so.1. ssexhd()+244 CALL ksedsta()+0 7267DC ? 7267BC ? 726400 ?

I've already tried re-installing the Oracle software for lack of any better options, but the same problems occurred. Our next step is to back down to Solaris patch level 10. Oracle Support doesn't think that patch level 27 would cause these problems, but it seems like the next logical step.
