I am hoping that someone can help me out with this very baffeling and frustraiting situation:

I support an application that is running Oracle 7.0.16 on a Sun server running SunOS 4.1.3 and SQLNet 2.0. The application is built using SQL*Forms 3.0 and Pro*C user-exits. Part of the user exits contain calls to create, update, and destroy SunView windows that are used to list information (Yes I know that SunView is no longer supported, but the 3rd party application that is used in conjunction with ours requires SunView).

What happens is at times one of the Oracle processes will vanish. By vanish I mean that it simply ceases to exist. From what we have been able to figure out is that sometimes the server is waiting for the client to respond and the client has vanished. Other times the client is waiting to hear from the server and the server process has vanished. Then for a REAL twist, sometimes the client is just simply waiting for the server to respond and the server just ignors it.

What the user sees is "Working...." at the bottom of the form and the application basicly hangs.

There are not any error messages retured. No warnings, no nothing.

To clean things up the remaninng processes have to be manually killed and the application restarted.

If anyone has any information, clues, hints, whatever, please let me know.
