Oracle resolves the ip address from the server via a tnsnames.ora
file on
the client. The tnsnames.ora file specifies the ip address (or
alias) of
the host(server) and the sid to which you wish to connect on the
server.
The information in the tnsnames.ora file is identified by a service
name
(specified within tnsnames.ora) which is used in your connect string
when
you connect from the client to the server.
