We too are upgrading from v6.0.37 to 7.1.3 on a DEC Vax platform.

When using the import/export method to upgrade your database, instead of editing the index create scripts generated by the import utility, just type in SET COMPATIBILITY V6 or add it to the beginning of the create script. Oracle 7 will use this to create VARCHAR2 instead of CHARs. Received on Fri Jun 23 1995 - 00:00:00 CEST
