Other DBMSes have a relatively straight-forward way to calculate disk usage. Oracle seems to require trial-and-error. BTW, yes I have read the 'Sizing' portions of Chapter 5: Managing the Development Process in Kevin Loney's book _ORACLE DBA Handbook_ . It is helpful but in no way completely describes how to size correctly the first time.
