Help: Problem with 2 Oracle Connections in RPC or Socket Program

Do you know if there is any problem in having 2 Oracle database connections in a socket or RPC program? When I suppress the 2nd connection, then it runs fine. Otherwise abend at bad instruction location. It's like illegal instruction. Something to do with bad function pointers and I don't use them. One connection is used for regular updates. The other is used for system errors and messages logging. Any insight into my problem? TIA.
