I have (diskless) PC clients running from a Novell (3.1) server under Windows 3.1, using the MS Office suite of tools (Excel, Access ...). I have an Oracle server (7.1.4) running under HP-UX 9.05 on a HP9000/735.

My understanding is that the various components I need to implement an ODBC connection for these PC users to access Oracle are:

	PC client                               HP server

	SQL*Net for Windows (v1/v2) <---------> SQL*Net (v1/v2)

|
Oracle ODBC driver
|
Application program
  1. Can anyone confirm this schematic?
  2. What are the pros/cons of using v1 vs. v2 of SQL*Net?
  3. What (if any) are the caveats, gotchas ... of this kind of remote access to Oracle?
