IMHO, I don't care for Sybase's practice of putting an index on an index
(I forget their term for doing this). That is breaking a given index into
segments which segments are then indexed. I can appreciate the theory, but
can't appreciate the extra layer of complexity that this introduces to the
database.
It's my opinion that Oracle's straightforward handling of indexes is more
a much more solid method, and does not significantly impact performance
(though I have no benchmarks to prove this).
Again, this is only my opinion. I hope it's appreciated as such.
