I'm reading the Oracle7 Server Admin Guide. I understand that I need to:

  1. Query: ALTER TABLESPACE tablespace_name BEGIN BACKUP;
  2. Backup data files using the operating system commands or starting the backup utility;
  3. Query: ALTER TABLESPACE tablespce_name END BACKUP;

My question is: how to you do part 2? What operating system command? What backup utility (does Oracle supply one)?

I have done data backups for Informix onto tape using a UNIX script that evokes an Informix utility to backup data. I would think that Oracle would have something similar (?).

I appreciate any help you can offer.

Please email me at vj1_at_sfg.com

Thanks, Victoria
