default location of initSID.ora file

Hello all;

Just wondering if it's possible to change the *default* location of the init.ora file. I know that you can specify an alternate location via the:

  startup pfile=/location/of/initSID.ora

from the server manager command line, but we'd like to make the alternate location the default.

specifics = Oracle 7.1.4 and 7.1.6, Digital Unix 3.0 and 3.2
