        This may or may not be related, but we were having very slow login times from PC's to VMS servers, but fast on VMS. Even when SQL*NET 2.1 was used in both enviroments, logins on VMS using SQL*NET were in the 2-10 second range, and in the 40-60 second range on the PC. We are using WFW/TCP winsockets (vxd) tcpip and sqlnet 2.1 (including nameserver). By hard coding in the tcpip addresses, we cut down the login time from 45 to 15 seconds. By using tnsnames.ora and not nameserver, it went down to 2-4 seconds. On VMS directly, with sqlnet, it's fast no matter which configuration.
