X$ fixed tables

There are dozens of X$ tables in Oracle7. Do you know how I can find some documentation on them? Specfically, I'm trying to find out how a tool we are evaluating determines how many enqueues (and other resources) are currently being used. But I'd really like to know what ALL the tables are for.
