We are trying to run an application in 7X24 mode with connection to an Oracle 7.1 on a Sequent. During the course of testing, to simulate maintainance of the database, the Oracle database was shut down and the application was not. The application detected the shutdown of the Oracle database and started attempts to reconnect. When the Oracle database restarted, the application was not able to reconnect. The error message was invalid user login. Why? Other information. Application and Oracle are running on the same platform. Connections use the direct connection, not the TCP/IP connection. If the application is started after Oracle is started, the system works fine. Shutting down the application while Oracle is running also (re)connectes properly. Every once in awhile, the application does reconnect to Oracle after Oracle is restarted. Thanks for any responses.
