Yesterday I upgraded a 7.0.16.4 to 7.1.6.2 on a Sequent without real problems. I loaded 7.1.6 to a separate ORACLE_HOME. Total time took about 5 hours including tape loads. A few things to look for: Know SYSTEM & SYS passwords prior to upgrade, set SYSTEM & SYS quotas to unlimited on system tablespace. Our init file had the parameter "init_sql_files' in it which choked in 7.1.6. I just commented it out. Also make sure you have some free space in SYSTEM tablespace. Our database was a test instance we didn't need anymore that didn't have much free space in SYSTEM and we filled it up. Hope this helps.
