DEC OSF/1's new name is Digital UNIX. X/Open licenses the UNIX trademark to compliant UNIX variants, and Digital's 64-bit offering complies.

It's true that Digital UNIX is younger than its more mature competitors. Ask them though how their performance compares to Alpha platforms. Ask if they'll ever support very large memory (14 GB) and big Oracle blocks (32K) as 64-bit Alpha does.

And it's stable. Maturity doesn't always equal stability. 64-bit is the future in database computing. Otherwise Oracle wouldn't invest their time on it. And Oracle's CEO Larry Ellison wouldn't stand up with Digital's CEO Bob Palmer two weeks ago and announce he was going to run Oracle's business on Alpha.
