Can only log in as root on new OR7DB? (shared mem?)

I just installed Oracle 7.0.13 on a Solaris 2.4 machine. When I installed it, I chose "oracle" as the db owner. However when I use SQLplus as the oracle user, I get:
ORA-07429 smsgsg: shmget() failed to get segment SVR4 Error: Permission denied
All works fine if I run SQLplus as root. This seems seems to be a shared memory permission problem, but I'm not sure where to start. Any pointers would be *greatly* appreciated!
