Hi,

I got a delightful call from Jackie Branch, so I volunteered to put together an informal RFP announcement to forward to the internet (Oracle-L and Usenet "comp.databases.oracle").

The Extension Course department at California State University, Sacramento is thinking about offering a certificate in Oracle, and would like proposals for putting together a four course series that could possibly be expanded to five courses later.

  1. Oracle Product Overview (A bit of theory, the RDBMS and associated tools/utilities)?
  2. Intro for end users
  3. CDE2 part #a forms
  4. part #b reports
  5. DBA (not at this time)

Anyone with interest in or information about this topic can reach Jackie Branch at the Regional and Continuing Education Dept:

    Name: Jackie Branch
                     Extended Education Specialist
    Of: Regional Continuing Education
    E-mail address: branchj_at_csus.edu     Phone number: USA (916) 278-4433

Of course, choices about treatment of platform specific DBA issues and CDE1 vs CDE2 will be hard to resolve.

Someone suggested that I might be interested in doing a future DBA class, which I thought was hilarioso. I could just imagine the reaction if the Unix folks had to hear whatever minimal stuff I know about Oracle admin on DOS/Netware! Maybe I could do something like the guy that wrote the "Idiots Guide" to fixing a VW beetle, but do it for Oracle Netware?

Seems that there are some local consultants doing in house training in govt and small agencies and the expectation is that Oracle is going to continue becoming a more popular RDBMS. Many have heard that Oracle Ed's classes are not convenient to travel to, are too expensive or are not well staffed, so local extension classes at the Univ might serve them better.

Thanks,

EP
