Two years ago we evaluated both tools extensivel. We found that the performance differences between the two were nil. Neither placed a significan load on the system. However, Eco Tools tended to spike system usage more.

Both tools seem to provide a good suit of monetering tools for the database. However, we found that, because Eco relies soly on its compiled agents it was a little more difficutl to expand its behavior.

Because Patro relies on shell scripts it was relatively ease to alter the behavior of its agents.

Overall we prefered the user interface of Patrol over that of Eco. So we purchased the Patrol product. Shortly after that Patrol was purchased by BMC. The next major version release of patro has not lived up to our expectations. It has added many good features but in our envirnment (multi-computer) we have found a persistant error in one of Patrols data collection agents.

We should be getting a fix soon but it has taken the usual amount of baggering. We found tech support for both prodcuts to be about avarage. That is poor!

Hope this helps. Received on Wed Apr 12 1995 - 00:00:00 CEST
