1. Try doing an export/import and see if that helps - could be db fragmentation.
2. Check for "chaining" - try the command ANALYZE LIST CHAINED ROWS.
3. Are you sure there are not more users or more network traffic?
4. How did the client measure "8x" slower? If they took their measurement at a busy time of the day it may not be an accurate reflection.
5. Analyze each application on it's own - try to determine which routine runs slowest.
6. Spend some $$$ and let someone who specializes in DB tuning to take a look at it.
