One does have to be very careful when upgrading from v7.0 to v7.1, because not like v7.0, SQL*Net v2 for v7.1 (v7.1.3 and v7.1.4) does not talk to v6 environment very well.

Check the SQL*Net version on the client side to see whether they need to be upgraded to v7 as well.
