I am in the process of upgrading to 7.1 ( from 7.0.16.x ) and have found it to be a potential disaster due to the lack of good documentation about this type of upgrade. ( the manuals [about 20 of them come with the product] focus on migrating from 6.x to 7.1 and say little about 7.0.x to 7.1 )

For instance, nothing in the documentation tells you to use the Custom Installation option rather than the Typical Installation option; I used the 'Typical' one and it zapped my existing database and built a new one, like it would do on a new installation ( guess thats what 'Typical' meant).

I did get good support ( and sympathy ) from Oracle Support and with their help ( an additional set of help documents that they are Emailing me ) I hope to do it right next week.

I'll post any further info as I get it.
