The Fox Users of Nova Scotia are proud to present "Visual FoxPro Plus", a five day seminar on Visual FoxPro, from May 8 through May 12 at the Mount Saint Vincent University in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

Alan Schwartz



Visual FoxPro Plus will be taught by Alan Schwartz of Micromega Systems Inc, a FoxPro consultancy in San Francisco. He is one of the developers of the relational reporting tool Foxfire! and has published numerous articles on FoxPro programming. Mr. Schwartz has been in close and regular communication with Microsoft throughout the development of Visual FoxPro and was one of its earliest beta testers. He is fully qualified and capable, and is well known in the FoxPro developers' community. His presentations are well organised, and are presented clearly with the aim of imparting his knowledge and understanding to the audience.

Course Description



Visual FoxPro Plus has been divided into two sessions, Plus One and Plus Four, to present new concepts and techniques in a coherent and progressive manner.

Plus One



Plus One is a one day session to introduce object-oriented principles and practices as they apply to business, finance, science, and research. Plus One includes a technical overview of Visual FoxPro and will address:
  • Goals of an Object Oriented Approach;
  • Terminology and Concepts;
  • Business Methods and Research Procedures;
  • Rapid Application Development;
  • Visual FoxPro Features;
  • Client/Server Development; and more.

This session should be attended by Project Managers, Information System staff, Consultants, Developers, and those with an interest in data processing technology, object-oriented programming, or client/server applications.

Plus Four



Plus Four is a four day session of intensive training with the goal of understanding object-oriented programming in Visual FoxPro. This session builds on the fundamentals that were covered in Plus One and includes discussions of:
  • Databases, Tables, and Normalization;
  • Data Dictionary and the Table Designer;
  • Triggers and Rules;
  • Validation of the Field, Row, and Table;
  • Transaction Processing;
  • Buffering;
  • Client/Server - Views and SQL Pass Through;
  • Object-Oriented Design;
  • Classes;
  • Events and Methods;
  • Properties;
  • the Form Designer; and more.

Plus Four will be taught in a classroom setting with one computer per attendee.

This session will be for anyone with a technical interest in Visual FoxPro or for anyone who is working with PowerBuilder, SQLWindows, dBase, or Paradox at a technical level.

Fees



The fees are:
  $250(Cdn) for Plus One;
  $850(Cdn) for Plus Four; or
 $1000(Cdn) for both (save $100).

Fees include the seminar room and lab rental, coffee breaks, instructors expenses and fees, course materials, and handouts.

Accomodations and dining facilities are available nearby, and parking passes are available for an additional $4.00/day.
