Mario,

From your question, it sounds like you are developing an OS/2 application, and not a Windows application which runs under Win/OS2, to connect to an Oracle database on UNIX. Since your database is on UNIX, I'm assuming that the SQL*Net Protocol you are using on your UNIX database is TCP/IP.

To connect to your UNIX server from the OS/2 machine, first check the version of SQL*Net TCP/IP server running on your UNIX machine. You will need to install SQL*Net TCP/IP client for OS/2 with the same corresponding version.

For example, if you have SQL*Net TCP/IP Server v1 installed in UNIX, your OS/2 machine MUST have SQL*Net TCP/IP Client v1 installed. The most recent production versions of SQL*Net TCP/IP clients on OS/2 are:

  SQL*Net TCP/IP client for OS/2 v1.1.6.13     Supports IBM TCP/IP 1.2, 1.2.1, 2.0

             3COM 3+Open TCP v1.1, 1.2

  SQL*Net Client 2.0.15.0
Oracle TCP/IP Protocol Adapter 2.0.15.0     Supports IBM TCP/IP 1.2 or later (2.0 recommended)

For SQL*Net OS/2 clients v1, other protocols available are APPC, Async, DecNET, Named Pipes, NetBIOS, SPX. For SQL*Net OS/2 client v2, other procotol adapters available are SPX, DecNet, LU6.2 and NetBIOS.

Windows applications running from Win/OS2 work a little differently - mainly because the application is probably unaware that it is actually running in OS/2. If your Oracle 7 database is local (Oracle 7 for OS/2 on the same machine), then you must have SQL*VDM installed and running for the Windows application (in Win/OS2) to connect to the database.

If your Oracle 7 database is remote (i.e., on a separate machine accessible over your network), you must have SQL*VDM and the appropriate SQL*Net OS/2 client software installed (appropriate as explained above.)

If your network protocol is TCP/IP, your Oracle 7 database is remote, AND you will only be connecting with Windows applications running in Win/OS2 (no OS/2 applications), then you can also connect using IBM TCP/IP v2.0 with the IBM DOS/Windows Access Kit v2.0 and either (1) SQL*Net TCP/IP v1.1.9.0 for Windows or (2) SQL*Net TCP/IP v2.1.4.1.3 (again depending on the version of SQL*Net TCP/IP Server installed on your remote Oracle 7 server.)
