Remote ORACLE Access?

My organization is about to settle on a technical solution for remote access to a large central ORACLE database from servers<->PC's located world-wide by way of the 'Net. Just to make sure we haven't overlooked a better approach...
Have you done something similar? If so, what app's did you use and how satisfied are you with the result?
How might you implement this capability?
