While Win-OS2 is a viable platform for CDE/CDE2 today, in the future MS will come out with Windows 9x, etc. One of MS's stated goals is to make sure that no competitor can provide continued Windows support hosted under another system without licensing Windows code from MS. They claim it will be impossible for IBM (with OS/2) or any other vendors (with other products) to run future Windows applications in any time frame useful to a user without their permission and assistance.

OTOH it is not clear whether it will continue to be in IBM's best interest (or ever was) to continue trying to achieve compatibility with MS OS products. So while Oracle's current strategy covers most desktop platforms, it is not clear whether the future OS/2, WorkPlace OS/OS2, or Taligent user should view CDE/CDE2 as a development alternative.

Is Oracle committed to supporting OS/2 in the future? Will Oracle support OpenDoc as well as OLE2? Has Oracle decided any of these questions?

Many would appreciate any answers to these questions.

Thanks,
