Adding my 2 cents to this thread...
Today hardware is usually cheaper than programmers so de-normalization is usually a bad idea.
Counter argument:
With Oracle7 triggers a lot of the data integrity issues associated with
de-normalization go away so the maintenance cost increases need not be as
severe.
