"Internal dispute at Oracle"

The January 16 issue of Information Week has a lengthy article with the above title. It says Oracle is "headed for a major shakeup." Several proposals were slated for the January 9 board of directors meeting. SAP is putting on a lot of competitive pressure and the Oracle applications business is not growing as fast as Ellison says it should. IDC says Oracle's 1994 applications business grew only 25%--far behind the industry average 69%. Oracle's president, Ray Lane, wants to spin off the applications unit as an independent unit. However, "Ellison rejected the idea out of hand."

Another topic of discussion will be how to stabilize Oracle's marketing department which has experienced rapid management turnover of late.
