Problem connecting to MTS thru SQL*Net V2 IPC

I have a database where I am attempting to use Oracle's multi-threaded server. However, when I connect to the database using the SQL*Net V2 IPC protocol, the connection hangs for about 5 min. and then connects. When I connect to the database using the SQL*Net V2 TCP protocol, I am able to connect without any delay. Has anyone else experienced this problem?
I am currently running Oracle 7.1.3 on a Data General AViiON system running DG/UX 5.4.3. I have tried the same configuration files on a SUN and have not experienced any problems. Any help or suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
