You need to replace the "-" in your connect string with a ":".
t:typhoon:iwa and this is assuming that you are using TCP/IP as your SQL*Net protocal, there is an alias in the HOSTS file of your system that equates to the address of the host system, and the SID of the oracle database that you are connecting to is "iwa"
