There is no way to suppress the redo log files since these are critical to instance recovery as well as media recovery.

Instance recovery happens every time you start Oracle. Without it, you would lose your database every time you shut down your machine without doing an Oracle SHUTDOWN NORMAL.

In earier versions of Oracle there was something called a After Image Journal that took and lot of time and space. You could suppres this and most people did.

The new loging that came in with V6 has minimal impact on performance. You do need a minimum of 2 log files. When Oracle fills one it will start to other. Then it will over write the first.

WARNING: If you have a media failure and lose the active redo log file you may not be able to recover your database. Consider mirrowing your log files. Received on Wed Dec 21 1994 - 12:32:21 CET
