The recommendation for multiple disks is a good one.
5 seems like more than necessary unless you are mirroring.
Give the log files their own disk. Oracle commits transactions once the write
to the redo log goes through. If you don't have the r/w heads jumping
around to access data files on the log drive, Oracle will write very
efficientlyindeed, giving you max throughput. Remember, one of the benefits of
rollback
segments is that you don't need to interrupt the redo log just to rollback
a transactions work.
PS- Oracle loves memory, as do many applications out there. If you can afford to, upgrade to 96 or 128 MB.
