MAGNA OFFERS FREE INTERFACE FOR DESKTOP ACCESS TO TUXEDO Open Client Interface Virtually Eliminates Coding For Clients Needing Access To Server-Based Tuxedo Services

New York, NY -- December 7, 1994 -- Magna Software Corporation today announced that for three months it is making its Open Client Interface available at no charge. The product enables users of Powersoft's PowerBuilder, Microsoft's Visual Basic and Visual C++, Gupta SQLWindows and other popular front-end development tools to invoke Tuxedo application services with a single line of code.

Open Client boosts developer productivity by eliminating the need to write 100 to 150 lines of C code to invoke distributed Tuxedo OLTP services using the Tuxedo workstation (/WS) API. The giveaway represents an opportunity for desktop front-end developers to gain an efficient means of scaling their business-critical applications across the enterprise and take advantage of Tuxedo services on mainframe and UNIX servers.

Many developers want to sample the tremendous functionality and flexibility offered by a three-tier client/server solution, explains Kent Lawson, president of Magna Software. Unfortunately, most have been locked to the desktop by complex code requirements. We are giving them a way to explore OLTP on their own terms, using the tools they know best.

Recipients of the Open Client Interface can use their own applications or take immediate advantage of sample PowerBuilder, Visual Basic, Visual C++, C and Gupta SQL Windows applications Magna has included.

Novell Lends Support To Giveaway

Novell is supporting the giveaway by making the offer available to its Tuxedo customers. Novell's director of Tuxedo marketing, Ivan Ruzic, commented, Magna is offering our users an easy way to realize the benefits of Tuxedo's powerful feature set while maintaining the productivity advantages associated with their familiar development tools. This is an important step in making three-tier client/server attractive to a broad audience that has perhaps not yet recognized how easy it is to build large-scale client/server systems.

Open Client - Part of MAGNA X 3-Tier Application Development

MAGNA X generates application services for three-tier client/server environments using transaction processing (TP) monitors such as Tuxedo from Novell.

Three-tier architectures partition applications between:
(1) a PC or workstation client;
(2) an application server handling business logic processing; and
(3) database servers and legacy systems.

In this context, a TP monitor manages performance and data integrity to provide a substantially more efficient and flexible environment. How To Get Free Copy Of Open Client

Tuxedo users can get a free copy of Magna's Open Client Interface simply by calling Magna Software at 212-691-0300. The offer is valid from December 12, 1994 through February 28, 1995.
