Sorry, but this is NOT TRUE. What you described was a NORMAL shutdown.

A SHUTDOWN IMMEDIATE terminates all client SQL statements being processed. Any uncommitted transactions are rolled back. This could take a lot of time!!

Killing processes on the OS level will not help either, since outstanding transactions still have to be rolled back.
