This information is normally used to define and/or implement a lock manager for a specific Operating System/Hardware combination, like DEC Clusters, IBM HACMP/6000, Sequent PTX/Clusters, Sun SPARC Clusters etc. This is done together with the hardware/operating systems vendor

Note: don't confuse this with the Parallel Query Option, which allows you

      parallellize SQL statements which doesn't really on the lock manager.
      Oracle Parallel Server is specifically meant for High Availability
      architectures, like the ones meant above.
