It depends on whether you have kept the TEMP tablespace "pristine" (used only as the "temporary tablespace" area for all users. If you have, there is no reason to back it up. On a version 6 database, you can just alter it off line, drop and rebuild it. On an Oracle7 database, ORACLE will dynamically clean out the TEMP area for you. You do not need to drop and rebuild it.
