SYSDATE usage thorough OCI calls

Hello,
I would like to use the function SYSDATE to insert the system date into
a field in the database using ORACLE's OCI calls but have been unable to
do so yet. Has anyone suceeded in doing this? I'm using Oracle Version 7.0.
Any info would be appreciated.
