We just made a decision between these two. For us the deciding factor was that Sun was easier and less expensive to scale upwards than HP. However, if you are fairly sure that your needs are pretty static, and that you have a good handle on what those needs are, then I would suggest that price might very well be the important factor for you. Everything we learned indicated that both machines run Oracle just fine. If you want to argue about benchmarks with sales reps you can do that for as long as you like, but it doesn't sound like your demands make too much of that worthwhile.

One other thing to look at though, is support. Sun doesn't have a good reputation for direct customer support, and in fact tried to steer us at a VAR for purchase and support as much as possible. HP does have a pretty good reputation for support, and they have cleaner and more straightforward support policies than Sun does as well.

Just my two cent's worth.
