-1438 error for PIC SV9(3) COM 3 field/Pro*COBOL

I'm getting a -1438 error from ORACLE while trying to insert a field defined as PIC SV9(3) COMP 3 containing a value such as .123 into a field in the table defined as NUMBER(3,3). This is happening on AIX and HP with ORACLE 7.0.16.4 and Pro*COBOL 1.5.10.1 with MicroFocus COBOL 3.2.2. If anyone out there has had similar problems or has any remedies, would appreciate email to rnv_at_synon.com.
A workaround is to define a larger field but that involves a lot of changes to our code generators which we would like to avoid. Received on Tue Oct 04 1994 - 17:35:02 CET
