Non-SunPro Compiler w/Pro*C

Has anyone had any luck with C compilers other than SunPRO C with Pro*C on Solaris 2? I tried gcc 2.4.5 at one point but it would not work due to Oracle's usage of the -xcg92 flag which was not supported at the time in gcc.
It'd be nice to avoid buying the Sun compiler, but perhaps there's no other way.
Any thoughts would be appreciated, thanks.
