Help with Big Oracle Database

I am running Oracle 7 on a Netware 3.12 server with a SCSI attached HP optical jukebox. The database is 40+ gigabytes. When executing a SQL load from the : prompt, the jukebox begins to cycle through all of it's disks. It appears as if Oracle is testing to see if the datafiles are accessable on the jukebox even though those are not the datafiles being loaded.
