what in GODs name are you doing puting an old delapitated version of oracle on a 486 P.C. I now its money and what Oracle charges for the product. I have 2 5.1a and 1 5.1b and 1 5.1c sitting here at home.
You need to look at either the CONFIG.ORA or the INIT.ORA its been so long I cannot remember which. It the file that is read and using when you type ORACLE at the prompt. You need to place the parameter DYNAMIC_MEMORY=4000 in this file which will tell Oracle to only use 4 Meg of memory when it starts up.
