You'll be happy to learn that we've fixed all of these painting issues (and some repainting issues) in Forms 4.0.13. The Windows version should be in shipping the week of IOUW. The Mac and Unix ports will follow shortly thereafter.

To quote the "Release Notes" file that ships with 4.0.13:
